1. Choose twenty different items of clothing from your closet/wardrobe and take note of where each one was made. This information is usually found on the label or tag (e.g., “Made in China"). 2. Create a visual representation of the data you gathered from the survey of your closet that shows in which country and/or region each item of clothing was made. It is up to you to decide how you want to represent the data; a simple table or graph is enough, although you may want to create a customized map that shows where each item came from. However you chose to represent the data, please make sure that the findings from your clothing survey are presented as clearly as possible. 3. Write a 2-3 page essay (double-spaced, Times New Roman, size 12 font) discussing the findings of this survey of your clothes. You should reflect upon which countries/regions are most represented in your wardrobe, and which appear to be under-represented or absent. Your essay must also engage with the following discussion questions: The clothing manufacturing industry is generally viewed as a “peripheral" process (i.e., based predominantly in the developing world" rather than the developed world”). Does the geography of your closet reflect this view? Why or why not? b. What types of economic, political, or social issues does this exercise bring to mind (e.g., outsourcing, child labor laws, safe working conditions, environmental issues)? In other words, what might be some of the economic, political, and/or social implications of a clothing manufacturing industry that is highly globalized? Feel free to refer to any concepts or terms discussed in the course textbook.

The closet revealed that the clothes which were mainly male clothes were made in different countries including China, Turkey, Bangladesh, Mexico and Indonesia. The variety of clothing that was assessed included jackets, socks, vests, shirts, trousers, jeans, underwear, and T-shirts. Ideally, all these pieces of clothing had a label tag that informed on the geographical location where it was manufactured. The survey was conducted using twenty pieces of clothing to create the above-customized map. A keen look at the countries that manufacture clothing will show that the clothing manufacturing industry is a peripheral industry. This alludes to the fact that the industry is mostly located in developing countries as opposed to developed countries. The clothing manufacturing industry is highly attributed to high productivity per individual thus relating to the tedious amount of work done. Owing to such facts, the clothing manufacturing industry can be characterized by the following. First, employees in this industry are subject to poor working conditions and low wages. Ideally, the countries that are vested in clothing manufacturing are suitable because the population is prone to low wages and cheap labor. The production volume of the clothing industry, therefore, makes these countries very suitable for the accomplishment of their operations. Secondly, the labor laws in such countries are not strict enough. It is...
