The nervous system primary function involves the collection, control and the communication of
raw data (information) on the surface of the body and within.
”2. Why does the cerebral cortex contain so many folds? ”
The celebral cortex contains several folds in a bid to increase the surface area of the brain to
handle the processing of all the information been collected.
”3. What is a nerve impulse? ”
A nerve impulse refers to the methodology utilized by cells in communication.
”4. What are Schwann cells and what do they form? ”
Schwann cells, also referred to as neurilemma cells. They comprise of all the cells in the
peripheral nervous system producing myelin sheath in the area around the axon.
”5. What is an all-or-none response? ”
This is a response dependent on the level of intensity/magnitude of a stimulus in relation to
how severe the nerve responds.
”6. What two effects might neurotransmitters have? ”
Neurotransmitters have the following effects:
The ability to fire an action potential; referred to as Excitation
The ability to not fire an action potential; referred to as Inhibition.
