Part 1
Module 1
Innovation involves the application of a service in a better way to meet the new
requirements, existing market needs and unarticulated needs. It is achieved by making the
products, technologies, processes and business models that exist in the society, government and
markets more effective than they have been (Darroch, & McNaughton, 2002). It stands for
something more effective and original and thus, anything new, breaking into the society or the
market. Innovation has some relation to invention though not the same thing since innovation
involves a more apt practical implementation of the invention. Innovation involves improving to
create a significant impact on the society or market, but not all innovations need invention. It is
manifested through engineering processes when the issues being solved are of scientific or
technical nature. According to research that interviewed some 1,757 business executives, 43%
of these consider innovation as of competitive necessity to any organization (Tidd, Bessant, &
Pavitt, 2005). The figure is however expected to rise to 51% in a five year time.
Thus, anybody can be innovative but in most cases it businesses which need to be innovative
so that they provide better products and services in the society or market. Innovation is required
when new businesses are making an entry into the market for the first time. The process involves

analyzed, and then the firm starts providing services or products to cover the loophole

is in the tourism and hospitality industry. The market involves the provision or services and

products to people or travelers all over the world who travel for leisure. Since people are
constantly moving about, visiting new places, quality products and services are required to make
them enjoy the new places they move regarding accommodation, food and drinks, internet
connection, easy booking of space and check in, transport and many other services that come
with traveling for leisure. There are many loopholes and business opportunities and potential in
the industry that need to be tapped by new or existing businesses for survival. The process of
making improvements on what tourists have been enjoying or lacking involves innovation and
this explains why the aspect is very important in the industry.
Having explored the industry closely, I have come to notice that tourists and visitors are
not very comfortable at places they normally check in for their accommodation. Mostly, hotels
serve as the main targeted places of accommodation. As much as these visitors get comfortable
beds to sleep on, hot water for their bath, quality foods and drinks, they also need to enjoy their
stay in such places, and this enjoyment comes on top of the normal services and products. Owing
to the increasing technology, the connection of internet has come to be of necessity to enhance
the daily operations of people and businesses. In this case, businesses and people need to
