make a equation that represents this situation: The taxi fair is $2.40 for the first 1/2 mile and additional mileage charged t the rate of $.20 for each addional 0.1mile. You plan to give the driver a $2.00 tip. Write an equation that represents this situation. Use m to represent the number of miles and c to represent the total cost.
The second term represent the cost of the additional mileage, for miles over than 1/2 miles, you pay $.20 for each additional 0.1 mile. As you decide to call x the number of miles traveled, it's better to say that $2.00 is the cost of additional 1 mile (we multiply per ten). For example for a drive of 2 miles we pay first 2.40 dollars for the first 1/2 mile. Remains 1,5 miles that you will pay 2 x 1,5 miles so 3.00 dollars.
The last term represents the $2.00 tip
We can simplify our equation :
c=2,40+(x-1/2)*2+2=2,40 + 2x - 1 +2 =3,40 + 2x
Thanks in advance for providing me a nice feedback for this question.
