If we follow a carbon atom around the cycle, can it ever leave earth? (assuming that we aren't using spaceships to remove it)
It will not leave earth.
This is because in all its form a carbon atom will remain either in the atmosphere(as gas) or on earth(solid state).
The atmosphere is bound to earth and does not extend to space.
