5x + 9 = x - 28

To work this question out, you must get all of the x's on one side of the equation, and the other numbers, without an x on the other. One way to do this is to subtract 1x from each side. This would then give you the equation:

4x + 9 = -28

Then you can subtract 9 from both sides giving you:

4x = -37

To find what x equals, you would then divide both sides of the equation by 4 to get x alone, giving you:

x = - 37 / 4

which equals:

x = -9.25

Please let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for your question. I hope I helped!
