a ski lift is built parallel to the side of a mountain. the surveyor tells the builder that the coordinates of two points of the side of the mountain are (400, 800) and (600,5000). the lowest point of the ski lift is to be at points (0,40).

what is the slope of the mountain?

find the linear function that represents the ski lift express in slope intercept form

the slope of the mountain: m=(y2-y1)/(x2-x1)

m=(5000-800)/(600-400)=4200/200=21

answer: slope of the mountain is 21

the linear function that represents the ski lift:

Passes through the point (0,40)

y=mx+b

40=21*0+b

b=40

y=21x+40
