Your research paper is very important, because it shows that you are ready for academic writing in your field, and it counts as 25% of your semester grade. You will have a minimum of eight database sources from your Annotated Bibliography. The paper will be at least five pages long but not longer than six pages. You will use standard MLA formatting with 12 pt. Times New Roman, in-text parenthetical citations, and a Works Cited page that does not count as part of your number of pages.
We will work on blending/embedding quotes into your own sentences, so the paper flows so smoothly that no one who listened to your paper being read aloud would know where your writing stops and your quoted material begins. Be very careful about "Forbidden Words." They will count against you more than ever -- four points each. You are allowed to have up to three "BE" verbs per page as long as they do not create passive voice sentences. We will have mini lessons over such things as passive voice, parallel structure, embedded quotes, subject/verb and pronoun/antecedent agreement.
Choose your topic based on your career interests and on whether it is "arguable" as defined in the exercise we did last week. Your sources will come from your Annotated Bibliography -- Eastfield database articles and printed sources from the library only.
My career interests involve becoming a physcal therapist and helping athletes (like myself) rehabilitate.
