In a world where competition among firms is heightening with each dawning day,
corruption is likely to find its way into the business arena with competing firms rapidly
improving their game in a bid to outdo their competitors. This occurs when some unscrupulous
business people want to fight for their survival through shortcuts instead of improving their
competence through research and training their employees and improve their products and
services. They opt to bribe their way through into clinching contracts. While this dubious method
appears to be beneficial to the propagators, it sometimes ends up in the light attracting heavy
penalties. This time around, it is Halliburton, the oil and gas major dealer based in Houston that
finds itself in this compromising situation.
According to the article that was written by Richard Cassin in the month of July this year,
Halliburton has been forced to pay $14 million as a disgorgement, another $14 million as fine
and $1.2 million as interest to prejudgment in settlement to enforcement that was done in an
administrative action for breaking FCPA international laws and bribing Angolan Officials in
order to be awarded contracts. According to (Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC),
