HCC Wk 15 David Mental Disorders Maria Depressive Disorder & Laura DPD Case Studies
This week we will be discussing psychological disorders. Below I have three case studies for you to review. Based upon the information presented I want you to provide which disorder best fits the signs and symptoms presented. Essentially, you are going to "diagnose" the fictitious person mentioned in the case study. Please remember that you need to be specific. Simply saying "depression" or "anxiety" is not enough. You need to have the specific name of the disorder listed.Case Study #1David has a lot of anxiety when he is at work, church, really any situation where he has to be around other people. The idea that someone is watching him makes him feel even more anxiety. He usually avoids any kind of eye contact with other people. If he knows he needs to talk to someone at work, he will write down what he is going to say prior to approaching the person so he knows exactly what to say. He notices that he doesn't feel as anxious if he has alcohol so he actually has started pouring vodka in his coffee at work just to help him deal with being around people.Case Study #2Maria has felt like she has been in a "funk" for years now. This interferes with her sleep and gives her a depressed mood more days than not. It has never been bad enough to where she thinks about suicide or otherwise harming herself, but feels so persistent that she just accepts it as a permanent part of her life now.Case Study #3Laura recently started a relationship. Although she has only been dating him for about a week now, she knows that she will marry him someday. She feels so connected to him that she wants to talk to him and be with him all the time. She feels terrified that he may not feel the same way about her. Recently, she noticed that he wasn't responding to her text messages as quickly as he usually does. This makes Laura feel worthless and rejected. She blew up and called his phone leaving several messages accusing him of cheating on her. After leaving these messages, she broke down and started feeling suicidal. She decides to send pictures to her boyfriend showing herself cutting her wrists.Case Study #4Mike has always felt that his nose was way too large. Every time he looks in the mirror he notices how big his nose looks. Everyone he knows says they don't think his nose looks out of place, but Mike persists. He notices that a lot of times when he goes out in public people look at him. He knows they're looking at him because of how freakish his nose looks. Mike has even had two previous surgeries to make his nose look smaller, but he feels like it still doesn't look the way it should.
