According to Kendra Cherry the authoritative parenting style is "child-centric approach in which parents hold high expectations for their children" while the "authoritarian parents have high expectations of their children and have very strict rules that they expect to be followed unconditionally". These parenting styles do not conflict, but responsible goals will need to be set in order to keep the child's temperment positive and healthy.
