Write the equation of the line through the point (5,5) and perpendicular to y= -6x+1

May 12th, 2015

the product of slopes of perpendicular lines is -1

Assume m is the slope of perpendicular line

then m*(-6) = -1

m = 1/6

so required equation of line will be of the form

y = (1/6)*x + C

now put (5,5) in above equation

5 = 5/6 + C

C = 25/6

therefore required equation of the line is

Y = x/6 + 25/6
