English MOIA Spring 2017 Researched Informative Argument Essay The Omnivore's Dilemma C We have read Michael Pollan's informative book, The Omnivore's Dilemma, and we have watched Food Inc. Both offer a startling exploration of the current food system in America. Certainly we can agree that the films and book offer consumers surprising information regarding the food industry, especially in terms of “what we don't know" or that which is being hidden from us.” Moreover, if we want to “know about the injustices involved in the current “systems” of food production, it is up to us, as consumers, to become educated and aware. And then, with awareness, we can make responsible choices as consumers. Hopefully, we can also make efforts to inform others regarding consumer ethics and responsibility, and in doing so, inspire changes that will improve the quality of our lives. Being mindful is the first step. So....let's exercise our minds with a bit of research and writing; this generally helps us to take a position. n Goals of the Assignment: To explore/research a topic of interest regarding some aspect related to "consumption” - To come away with a stand on an issue of importance to you ~ To INFORM your readers about your topic by presenting a multifaceted understanding of the issue to your audience. Pesticides Found in Food and their Impacts
This issue of knowing what pesticides is in which of your foods is very important.
Some of these pesticides can be extremely harmful to humans, especially children! Some of
the known issues that these can cause are cancer, autism, and a lot more variations of
neurological disorders. What we should be doing and will be doing is gaining knowledge of
the pesticides in the foods, get a separation of the good ones and the bad ones, and produce a
way to be able to identify which foods from what companies humans should stay away from!
It is also important to note that pesticides are normally designed to kill various pests
including insects, weeds, fungi, bacteria among other living organisms which are notorious at
feeding on crops, spreading diseases, are a nuisance or even destroy properties such as
buildings (Hamilton et al., 5). Agriculture is indeed considered as one of the backbones of
many economies including the United States of America since ensuring that there is enough
food security is key to the productivity of the citizens. Pesticides are indeed scientifically and
genetically modified elements which have the capacity to that the crops yield high demand,
no matter how it affects the environment or even the various consumers. Specifically, the
paper will seek to educate more on some of the pesticides which can be found in the food the
human consumes. The report will also highlight and explains some of the effects these
pesticides found on food can have on our human health. Last but not least, it would be
necessary to conclude the paper by discussing we can always control the consumptions of
these pesticides on our food to minimize their harmful effects on our bodies.
