Description

You have been advised by the warden that the agency is going to seek national accreditation by the ACA and that he has designated you as the accreditation manager. One of the areas that will be looked at is internal policies dealing with officer misconduct. There have been several incidents in the past in which officers have either been disciplined or fired for conduct that violated the rules and regulations of the agency.

He has tasked you with the responsibility of coming up with a comprehensive training plan that would address ethical and moral issues officers face in the performance of their duties. He also wants you to explore the possibility of instituting a civilian review board to investigate inmate complaints against officers. He assigns several other members of the agency to assist you.

Addressing the Handling of Officer Complaints
Analyzing the current level of officer misconduct
The main objective of analyzing the present levels of officer misconduct is to find those
officers who present problems to both themselves and the department at large. However much it
is difficult to get a position in corrections and law implementation organizations have to consider
the persons causing the challenges (Ford, 2014). They are the types of officers who consider
themselves superior and fail to act of the number of complaints they receive from the general
public. People consider such officers as the champions of the change whose compulsory
takedowns are overly aggressive and come with a lot of questions. More often, officers do not
easily report their colleagues with unwarranted behaviors (Witten, Frank, Hall, & Pal, 2016). The
code of silence is a major concept that poses negative challenges to the integrity of the police
force despite its other positive contributions. The procuring practices in analyzing the conduct of
officers depend on different variables.
Such variables include; socialization, individual ethical quality, supervision, and
character. In the process, the relevant authority extensively investigates the conditions under
which the variables unify. However, the process does not have a standard of formal procedure
because different states have different ways of doing their analyses. For many administrators, the
issue is about work preparation. The progress advocates for the use of disciplinary actions in
addressing the issues of misconduct among officers. Directors then get instructions on how best
to use the network without significant preparing. The system integrates a managerial check
derelict that guarantees the investigation of all components.

Techniques used to train officers
There is a lot of talk particularly in the mainstream media concerning the need to improve
and intensify the level of training to the law enforcement officers in the world (Lombardo, 2016).
Such a process requires the implementation of new techniques that will prove different from the
past practices. In the United States, the techniques used in the training process include;
Teach Communication Skills
The technique focuses on the capability of the officers to communicate with their
colleagues, respondents and other members of the public. Proper communication skills help the
officers disseminate necessary and accurate information to the required recipient. Officers have
to how to balance their command power and friendly attributes when dealing with citizens.
Therefore, a good training procedure must incorporate the aspect of communication.
Train to Policy
Policy is a fundamental way of regulating the behavior of parties and individuals. For
instance, If the organization’s policy requires officers to use certain techniques in certain
situation, the officers should have adequate training on how to perform the specified technique
under the stated cond...
