ESCAPE ROOM PROJECT
Escape Room Project
Summary of the Project
The project title was Escape Room, and the team developed one through integrated
efforts. On the first meeting, the group managed to have brief introductions led by the team
leader. The objective was inviting a track team that required solutions to solve the challenges inorder to escape from the room. With the delegated tasks for each member, we met frequently and
worked in one facility. Arriving at individual answers to the challenges was hectic, and we had to
acknowledge the need for teamwork efforts that made the process easy and we got concrete
solutions. As the project progressed we incorporated the learnt classwork theories in the various
stages such as in project management and team performance as discussed below that led to the
project’s success (Kerzner, 2013). I made significant contributions in the fifth activity.
Evaluating the Learnt Theories
Lencioni’s 5 Dysfunctions of a Team
Team projects comprise of members with various goals and liability to failure thus this
might lead to the ineffective achievement of objectives (Sparks,2013). With the small loops not
fixed, more challenges are potential to occur. Project managers need to be concise of the
significant sources of dysfunction with the team and have the solutions to mitigate them saving
on time, budget and not deviating from the scope. One of the dysfunction is on mistrust, where
the members are not comfortable with each other’s character; delaying to accept that they require
each other’s contribution even in instances when they make errors. The managers should
acknowledge that the team members have several expertise thus it’s necessary to identify
individual drawbacks and capabilities. Furthermore, the group leader should create open
interactive meetings and share activities with the intention of having each member contributing
thus their character become apparent to others. In the project, we involved every member by
sharing the five activities amongst ourselves then ultimately after a consensus came up with
solutions to the challenges; that way we realized the project’s objectives.
The other dysfunction is on fear of conflict; inferiority complex dominates as there is no
trust and this limits the strengths to have every one airing out their opinions freely. Therefore, the
manager should order debate during the teamwork that entails allowing chances of conflicts
which rather than bringing unproductive outcome it becomes essential in shaping the activities of
the project. Additionally, the managers should create a baseline for addressing differences within
the team and focus on comprehending the members’ reaction to conflict(Sparks, 2013). Thirdly,
with the existence of differences commitment is less forthcoming as each member holds various
perspectives in the decision making; the consequence is a project team with lost direction and
little or no goals attainment, and in some extent, the project may collapse. To avoid the threat,
the team leader should focus on outlining the consignments measure and ensuring that after
every session he/she reaffirms the member’s degree of commitment. Furthermore, the manager
must consider applying the approach of working on disagreements to boost dedication. The
fourth cause is on avoiding accountability, without allegiance the team members fail to point out
the unproductive behavior among them that are likely to ruin the prosperity of the project work.
The leader has a role in addressing objectives and the accepted levels of behavior and
frequently comparing the implementation of the two aspects. The fifth dysfunction is lack of
attention to results as member hold different personal goals; egocentrism and recognition take
over which are destructive elements to the project. The manager is responsible for ensuring that
the team concentrates and remains with...
