At the time scale of seconds, two major theoretical views of perception
exist. First, individual perceptions are part of a lifelong process of
building an ever-changing map of the everyday world in which one lives.
In the second view, perceptions are a facet (not a distinct entity) of
the decision-action process, not self-contained representations of some
external state that supplies information to the sensory system. In your
opinion, are these views substantively different? Is the existence of
qualia necessary for either of these two views? Justify your opinions.
