Analysis of Free Will
Harry Frankfurt’s analysis
In his analysis, Harry Frankfurt defends compatibilists’ view by the use of the freedom of
the free will. It is evident from his argument that determinism is indeed compatible with the
human freedom as opposed to the analysis of other philosophers. His arguments also arise from
the free action theory which vastly relies on the various traditional compatibilist views (Frankfurt
5). The philosopher also asserts that absence of external sources or even constrain is not enough
for free will. He, therefore, argues that for free will, the agent needs to have desires. The desires,
in turn, motivate the action of the person, unlike animals or even nonpersons.
The author gives a procedure through which one can determine the free will. He,
therefore, formulates some positions to support his analogy and argument (Frankfurt 10-12).
First, it is important to determine what makes animals and a person different. Secondly, it is
