Ofuji Noburo, Black Cat, 1928 is a Japanese anime written by Kōka Sassa representing a
record talkie coming from the silent film period which was oftently played in asynchronously
with a phonograph record. The Black Cat was the first animated film which used the
synchronous soundtrack, and it became the first step towards sound film in Japan. On the other
hand Ofuji Noburo, The National Anthem (Kokka Kimigayo) of 1931 was a lyrical animated
short national anthem which was used as the national anthem of the Empire of Japan. Before the
beginning of any film in Japan, the national anthem was always played which was a proposal of
Bunzaburo Banno who owned the Banno Shoten (Clements, 2013). Therefore in this in mind,
Noburo Ofuji produced Kokka Kimigayo to be used in small gauge films. The different between
the two is that in Black Cat there was the use of synchronous soundtrack and in Kokka Kimigayo
it used lyrics and was mostly sang before viewing of an animated film in Japan.
Seo Mitsuyo, Momotaro's Sea Eagles of 1943, was the first animated feature film coming
