When doing (-1)^(a number), it equals -1 if the number is odd or 1 if the number is even. Since 15 is odd, (-1)^15 = -1. Then we have the next minus inside the square bracket which makes --1=1 and then we have the one outside the brackets which gives us an answer of -1.
