Statistics Project
Statistics Project ASSIGNMENT:
The purpose of this assignment is to provide you with an opportunity to demonstrate the ability to
analyze and compare two sets of data using the statistical methods discussed in this course.
The 10,000 meters is a standard track event and it is a part of both the Olympic Games and World
Championships. The top 17 finishers of the men’s and women’s races from the 2015 World
Championships are listed. 1. Calculate the mean, median, range, and standard deviation for each data set. You are expected
to use at least two technology tools to make your calculations (such as a calculator, Microsoft
Excel, etc.). State specifically what technology you used. If you choose to use Microsoft Excel,
instructions for these calculations can be found here:
http://researchbasics.education.uconn.edu/calculat... 2. Explain in three to five sentences how you found the standard deviation. Be sure to describe
any technology that you used and how you used it. 3. Suppose the timing device used in the men’s race failed to activate at the start of the race and
instead began to record the times
x
seconds into the race. Consider how the competitors’
times would be affected. Would the
x
seconds be added to or subtracted from the times
recorded to find the true times? Would the median you calculated in question #1 be affected?
If yes, how? If no, why not? 4. Determine who placed 20th in the men’s and the women’s 10,000 meter races at the 2016
Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro. Record the names, nationalities, and times. Be sure to
properly cite at least two sources on a Works Cited page. Under “assignment specifications”
below, there are some guidelines to help you with citing your sources. 5. If both of those 20th place finishers from question #4 had competed in the 2015 World
Championships with their 2016 Olympic time, where would they have placed? Which one
would have done relatively better than the other at the 2015 World Championships? Justify
your answer mathematically. Consider using more than one method to justify your answer.

• This assignment is to be completed individually as a take-home project.
• Your project should be typed; however, mathematical calculations may be handwritten.
• Your facts must be properly cited with a Works Cited page. For citation, use the Modern

Milestone #2
Submit a paper and a spreadsheet that provides a justification of the appropriate statistical tools needed to analyze the company’s data, a hypothesis, the results of your analysis, any inferences from your hypothesis test, and a forecasting model that addresses the company’s problem. For additional details, please refer to the Milestone Two Guidelines and Rubric document in the Assignment.Guidelines and Rubrics section of the course. Milestone 2: Guidelines and RubricThe final project for this course is the creation of a statistical analysis report Operations management professionals are often relied upon to make decisions regarding operational processes. Those who utilize a data driven, structured approach have a clear advantage over those offering decisions based solely on intuition. You will be provided with a scenario often encountered by an operations manager.Your task is to review the “A Cat Corp.: Forecasting” scenario, theaddendum, and the accompanying data in the case scenario and addendum. In Module Seven, you will submit your selection of statistical tools and data analysis, which are critical elements III and IV. You will submit a 3 to 4 page paper and a spreadsheet that provides justification for the appropriate statistical tools needed to analyze the company’s data, a hypothesis, the results of your analysis, any inferences from your hypothesis test, and a forecasting model that addresses the company’s problem.Specifically the following critical elements must be addressed: III.Identify statistical tools and methods to collect data:A.Identify the appropriate family of statistical tools that you will use to perform your analysis. What are your statistical assumptions concerning the data that led you to selecting this family of tools? In other words, why did you select this family of tools for statistical analysis? B.Determine the category of the provided data in the given case study. Be sure to justify why the data fits into this category type. What is the relationship between the type of data and the tools?C.From the identified family of statistical tools, select the most appropriate tool(s) for analyzing the data provided in the given case study.D.Justify why you chose this tool to analyze the data. Be sure to include how this tool will help predict the use of the data in driving decisions.E.Describe the quantitative method that will best inform data driven decisions. Be sure to include how this method will point out the relationships between the data. How will this method allow for the most reliable data?IV.Analyze data to determine the appropriate decision for the identified problem:A.Outline the process needed to utilize your statistical analysis to reach a decision regarding the given problem.B.Explain how following this process leads to valid data driven decisions In other words, why is following your outlined process important?C.After analyzing the data sets in the case study, describe the reliability of the results.Be sure to include how you know whether the results are reliable.D.Illustrate a data driven decision that addresses the given problem. How does your decision address the given problem? How will it result in operational improvement?Guidelines for Submission:Your paper must be submitted as a 3to 4 page Microsoft Word document and attached spreadsheet with double spacing, 12 point Times New Roman font, one inch margins, and at least six sources cited in APA format.***See addendum above2 hours agoATTACHMENTS

Rasmussen College Hypothesis Test for Population Parameter Questions Worksheet
Given a real-life application, develop a hypothesis test for a population parameter and its interpretation.InstructionsScenario (information repeated for deliverable 01, 03, and 04)A major client of your company is interested in the salary distributions of jobs in the state of Minnesota that range from $30,000 to $200,000 per year. As a Business Analyst, your boss asks you to research and analyze the salary distributions. You are given a spreadsheet that contains the following information:A listing of the jobs by titleThe salary (in dollars) for each jobIn prior engagements, you have already explained to your client about the basic statistics and discussed the importance of constructing confidence intervals for the population mean. Your client says that he remembers a little bit about hypothesis testing, but he is a little fuzzy. He asks you to give him the full explanation of all steps in a hypothesis testing and wants your conclusion about two claims concerning the average salary for all jobs in the state of Minnesota. Background information on the DataThe data set in the spreadsheet consists of 364 records that you will be analyzing from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. The data set contains a listing of several jobs titles with yearly salaries ranging from approximately $30,000 to $200,000 for the state of Minnesota. What to SubmitYour boss wants you to submit the spreadsheet with the completed calculations, answers, and analysis.
