Environmental Geology 2
Environmental geology is usually concerned with applying the principles of geology in
solving various environmental problems. It usually involves studying human interactions with
the geologic environment. This, therefore, means that geologic environment is all about applying
geologic information to solving conflicts, maximizing possible advantages that result from the
use of modified and environment and even minimizing any possible environmental degradation.
This study will focus on the contribution of the land use to the quality of water. The research
will, therefore, show how people are expected to use their land to improve water quality through
minimization of pollution.
There are various activities of water and land use that have taken place in different water
bodies like streams, oceans, and lakes. These activities include mining, generation of power and
agriculture. These are activities that heavily rely on good and services that are derived from the
area of an aquatic ecosystem. As a result of these activities, water bodies end up being polluted
because of different anthropogenic stressors that are found in these catchments. Some of these
stressors are intensive mining of coal activities, generation of power that is coal-fired, industrial
activities like chrome and steel smelters and chemical manufacturers and even agricultural
activities. These activities combine and lead to a general decline in the management and
operation of treatment of wastewater infrastructure and mostly treatment of the sewerage.
These activities end up generating so many pollutants. Some of the generated pollutants
include the acidification of the inputs and the system or what is called the mobilization of heavy
metal ions like sulfates and other contaminants...
