The requirements are:

1. Prior application of one year before expiration of certificate.

2. Have necessary documents for recertification

For re-certification acertificantsshould apply one year prior to expiration of their certificates and if all documents needed for recertification are available. Note that certificants who allow there certificates to expire risk not been able renew there certification and been able to practice dependent upon state-specific regulations.

A certificants may renew certificate under two options:

1. Should meet the current clinical practice or any other necessary field or or continuing with education as required by AANPCP

2. if certification applies and takes appropriate Family, Adult, or Adult-Gerontology examination.

Recertification is achieved through law. That is those who have not renewed their certificate are not allowed to work under AANP. It is reasonable because it allows those who have specialized to have there certificate updated. also to those who have misbehaved in the work to have there certificate degraded
