The term sophistry comes from the ancient Greek Sophists. The philosophers of the ancient times were thought to use sophistry so that they teach their students to win arguments by any means
necessary. This was only seen as a means of making money.
Today, sophistry is seen as sacrificing truth and reason by trying to argue from an individual position without reasoning which other people know is invalid. Today sophistry is seen as misleading because its arguments are fallacious.
