  1. Describe the phenomenon of convergence, including the way that convergence has gotten "more overlapped" over time. Include comments specifically on how print, broadcast, and digital media have moved from minimal convergence to almost total convergence. Offer insights as to why this has happened. Include practical reasons, such as personal access to technology and other phenomena.
  2. Of the five philosophical principles that govern media ethics shared in the Ethics in Media PPT, discuss two as their theories/principles relate to the behaviors that we witness daily in the mass media, including traditional (print/broadcast) and digital. How are those philosophical principles being applied? How are those philosophical principles being ignored or tested? Provide at least one example.
  3. Consider how many changes digital media have brought to communication, including personalized, interactive, and viral communication. Now consider how much of digital communication has its foundations in the principles of print and broadcast in terms of content, delivery, and operations. Is digital really revolutionary or is digital communication simply evidence of progress in the field of mass communication? Defend your answer with examples.
  4. Review the principles of the First Amendment and Fourth Amendment to the Constitution as they relate to the field of mass media and the practice of mass communication, particularly the use of SmartPhones as personal property as discussed in the news story relating to a criminal case,
    Explain what you think the implications are of this case. What does it mean for communication? What might different outcomes mean for privacy and free speech?

Prepare a 1-2 page response to the following as you reflect back over the role of media in society.

Explain how the role of media has progressed from ancient times to the present day that has come to include print, broadcast, and digital channels for communication.
