ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE ANALYSIS PRESENTATION
DESCRIPTION OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL ISSUE (ENVIRONMENTAL
Environmental degradation is considered the deterioration of the environment or
disintegration of the earth through consumption of assets e.g. water, soil, and air;
eradication of wildlife and the destruction of environments (Pereira, 2015).
According to the UN International Strategy for Disaster Reduction, environmental
degradation is among the biggest threats that pose a significant risk to our surroundings.
This environmental issue can be seen from the perspective of its long-term ecological
effects, some of which can disintegrate the entire environment (Schreiber, et al., 2016).
As a result, there is need to address the causes and effects of environmental degradation
through concerted individuals, communities, and/or government interventions (
Gallego-Alvarez, et al., 2013).
CAUSES OF ENVIRONMENTAL DEGRADATION
Environmental degradation is attributed to a variety of causes including:
➢ Land Disturbance: Here land damage through human activities or numerous invasive weedy plant
Pollution: Different forms of pollution such as land, water, noise or air harm the environment leading to
degradation (Pereira, 2015).
Overpopulation: Overcrowding due to rapid growth in population strains natural resources resulting to
Landfills: The waste dumped in landfills leads to environmental pollution subsequently destroying the
beauty of the city (Gallego-...
