Main argument
The author’s main point of the argument is the existence of evil, whose primary cause
is unhappiness, and which people mistake for depression. The author has been a medical
practitioner for 14 years; hence, he has experience with people who have been victims of both
evil and those who have perpetrated evil. This is because the author had the chance to work in
a hospital and prison within during his line of duty. There are many other sources of evil in
the society, but the primary source according to the article shows that unhappiness is the
mother of evil and it is as well caused by other aspects such as poverty, moral cowardice of
the political elite, ideological pressures, parental example, and social pressure, among others.
The evil that exists in the society today is caused by people who experienced the same
during their childhood as a result of neglect from their parents. The article claims that patients
visit hospitals with faked illnesses and the medical practitioners lie to them as well. The poor
are the most interesting in terms of medication. The poor like always have a myriad of
challenges and are considered unhappy hence they need more medical attention than the rich.
The focus is on Great Britain although the author visited many other places as well.
The conditions that allow evil to flourish can be said to be the social setting,
economy, and politics. Evil happens to be passed on from generation to generation because of
