Abstract art is a form of art which starts with something real which can either be an object
or a scene then and in a way it departs from reality in the aim of obtaining emotional or intellectual
essence from a complex picture. Abstraction was defined as a new form of art in the United States
that did not make reference to any real subject. Abstract art does not make any representation of
the real World but try to be nothing more than what they are (Feist, Brady et al, 2004). This form
of art attempts to break away from traditional representation of physical objects. It focuses on
exploration of relationships of forms and color unlike traditional art which represented
recognizable images. Abstract art was developed in the early 20th century and it included early
movements of Surrealism, Dadaism, Cubism and Fauvism. Other abstract forms included the
Suprematism, Art informel, Neo-plasticism and De Stijl. The roots of abstract painting can be
found with Post-Impressionism (Gooding, 2001). In this paper, we will be looking at Marx Weber
and examine his stylistic development into abstraction.
