A one sample t-test can be used to show an average of a portion of the entire sample has huge difference between a given numerical limit. The mean of the of the annual number of thunderstorms or days of precipitation can be compared with the 100 or any particular number .For example, using the hsb2 data file, say we wish to test whether the average writing score (write) differs significantly from 50. We can do this as shown below.
