Public health has the objective of improving the health and wellbeing of individuals in
the country through treatment and prevention of chronic diseases disease. This can be achieved
through numerous strategies including monitoring health cases and indicators as well as the
advocating for healthy behaviors (Friedman et al., 2014). Some of the initiatives that are
common include vaccination delivery, condom distribution and suicide prevention campaigns.
The Public health can be viewed as the science of promoting the human health and prolonging
life by the use of systematized efforts in the general community as well as at personal levels.
Health is concerned about social, mental and physical well-being in the society and not just the
lack of ailment or disease. The public health issues that will be discussed widely in this paper
include HIV/AIDS and Diabetes in the state of Florida.
HIV/AIDS
HIV is an abbreviation for the human immunodeficiency virus. It is responsible for
weakening an individual’s immune system through the destruction of the CD4 cells in the body;
these are responsible for fighting infections and diseases. So far, there has not been an effective
cure for HIV. However, with the best care, an individual can live a healthy life. Different people
in the state of Florida have different likelihoods of acquiring HIV; numerous factors are into
consideration in this, including risk behaviors and sex partners. The first cases in the United
States were in California and New York in 1981. The AIDS epidemic also began in the same
year in Florida more than a thousand cases were reported by 1895. This prompted for the
institution of the Bureau of HIV/AIDS formerly known as the AIDS Program Office (Friedman
et al., 2014).
HIV /AIDS had developed into a profoundly broadcasted, state epidemic. The Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has reacted by functioning diligently with numerous
