Description

Construct a professional paper that outlines the advanced practice role – as a nurse educator, a nurse leader, or a nurse practitioner – to advance the CDC’s antibiotic resistance initiative. The paper needs to be a minimum of six (6) pages [excluding title and reference pages] consistent with APA style without an abstract page.  The paper is worth 40 points.

Please include the following:

Introduction that identifies your advanced practice role and your view of how that role will be able to impact the antibiotic resistance dilemma. Support your discussion with at least two references from the literature.

Review the CDC’s goals and identify one of the CDC’s key strategies that you will be able to promote/support in your advanced practice role. Support your discussion with at least two references from the literature.

  1. Discuss three activities/actions that you will develop to support the promotion of the key strategy that you identified in item 2 above. Each action/activity needs to be well designed and supported with at least one reference from the literature.  [For example, if you are a nurse educator student  – in what course(s) will you be able to promote your identified key strategies, be specific about what that would look like using example lesson plan(s), identify any active learning strategies you will utilize, etc., and provide justification for your strategies, etc.; if you are a nurse leader student – what program(s) and activities will you engage with relative to your organization, be that existing programs or creation of new programs, reporting mechanisms, development of collaborative committees, etc., and provide justification for your strategies, etc.; if you are a nurse practitioner student – what prescribing practices, patient education practices, monitoring programs, etc., will you engage with, and provide justification for your strategies, etc.

Introduction
Antibiotic resistance is the phenomenon whereby bacteria and other microorganisms
evolve to resist the effects of antibiotics. This means that antibiotics that were once effective
against these microorganisms are no longer effective, leading to a range of problems, including
increased morbidity and mortality, longer hospital stays, and higher healthcare costs. According
to Lomazzi et al. (2019), antibiotic resistance is a growing global public health threat driven by a
combination of factors, including the overuse and misuse of antibiotics, poor infection control
practices, and inadequate investment in the development of new antibiotics. As the resistance of
microorganisms to antibiotics increases, it becomes more difficult to treat bacterial infections,
and new, more virulent strains of bacteria may emerge. A multi-disciplinary approach is needed
that involves efforts to improve infection control, reduce the overuse of antibiotics, and promote
the development of new antibiotics and alternative treatments. This requires the cooperation of
healthcare providers, patients, the pharmaceutical industry, and governments. Antibiotics should
only be used when they are truly needed, and people should always follow healthcare providers'
instructions, including completing the entire course of antibiotics as prescribed. This helps to
slow the development of antibiotic resistance and preserve the effectiveness of antibiotics for
future generations.
Role of nurse practitioner student in addressing the antibiotic resistance dilemma
As a nurse practitioner (NP) student, I have a critical role in addressing the antibiotic
resistance dilemma. One of the ways I can contribute to addressing the antibiotic dilemma is
through patient education. As a future NP, I will have the opportunity to educate patients about
the dangers of antibiotic overuse and the importance of taking antibiotics only as prescribed. I

can also educate patients on the importance of good hand hygiene and other infection control
measures to prevent the spread of infections. The second way is through close collaboration with
other players in the healthcare industry. I can work with other healthcare providers, such as
physicians, pharmacists, and public health professionals, to promote a multi-disciplinary
approach to addressing the problem of antibiotic resistance.
The third way is to advocate evidence-based practice. I can promote the use of evidencebased practices in the treatment of infections, including the use of rapid diagnostics and
alternative treatments, such as probiotics, to reduce the dependence on ant...
