Gary- A flywheel principle is whereby an organization is keen on working towards the benefit of customers rather than concentrating on transactions. In the beginning, an organization should put more effort into satisfying the needs of consumers according to the Flywheel principle. Initially, it may prove to be difficult to appeal to all customers as not every customer may want to be associated with a new company (Jelassi & Martínez-López, 2020). However, a consistent way of doing things in a positive way and one that appeals to customers leads to winning many consumers. Referrals come from customers that feel have been treated best and hence they communicate to their peers. Such a positive turn of events is due to the energy that is slowly pumped into an organization before a company is able to drive itself.On the other hand, the principle of doom loop can be categorized as a negative model that takes place when banking institutions have sovereign bonds with governments and at the same time the governments possess public finances that are weak even when weak banks come to their rescue (Covi & Eydam, 2020). In such a situation, governments are normally exposed to the risks of a bank and at the same time, banks get exposed to the sovereign risk through holding government bonds within their portfolios.Amazon is a clear example of a company that embraced the Flywheel effect. The company started by having a low-cost structure that did not demand too much from the founder, Jeff Bezos. At the same time, the company put low prices on its products factor that made many customers flock to its site. As the company was engaged in the above practices, it ensured that customers got the best experiences as they would be attended to in a good manner (Jelassi & Martínez-López, 2020). Besides, customers flocked to the Amazon site because of the low prices of the products, a factor that ensured Amazon gained when it came to profits. The flywheel effect worked in that more energy was initially put at satisfying the customers before concentrating on transactions but the end game was huge traffic from customers leading to more profits.A good case of the doom loop is the euro crisis where the weak banking system and the fragile fiscal policies of the government brought a difficult macroeconomy during the euro period. As a result, government institutions were unable to take part in their normal duties of maintaining better policies, and at the same time banking institutions made losses (Covi & Eydam, 2020). Due to the weaknesses of the government policies, it was not easy for banks to get their loans in time. On the other hand, the weak nature of European governments derailed in passing formidable macroeconomic policies.A majority of organizations find themselves in the doom loop model rather than using the flywheel model as they desire to make a lot of profits from the start of doing business. Startup organizations and other corporations borrow money from unreliable banking institutions which may be coupled with high interest leading to paying much money in the end. On the other hand, the flywheel strategy requires organizations to put more effort into satisfying customers which is seen as a difficult task as it takes longer to make profits (Jelassi & Martínez-López, 2020). Sierra- The flywheel concept focuses on the central idea that a steady push towards a goal or goals with relentless work will be enough to produce momentum to keep the changes going while the doom loop focuses on the central idea of running off in one direction only to later turn in a new direction to chase. The flywheel concept is goal oriented and is shown as achievable while the doom loop is show negatively and will result in failure for the agency in the long run. The flywheel image captures the overall feel of what it was like inside the companies as they went from good to great, no matter how dramatic the end result, the good-to-great transformations never happened in one fell swoop (Collins, 2016). Over the years I have worked for agencies that have been examples of both. First looking at the flywheel concept I would compare my experience working for the state police. The state police were always centrally focused on maintaining a goal of safety and upholding the law but also wanted to do so in a manner that served the community adequately. Through tireless efforts the agency worked with the community to achieve its goals and it could be seen through such initiatives like lower crime rates and positive police citizen interactions. In a second example I would compare my experience working as fraud investigator for a bank, this bank was the classic example of doom loop. It was too focused on what other banks and competitors were doing to worry about what its own organizational goals were. Because of this it lacked success and could be seen through its earnings and returns. Much of the strategy and management advice that business leaders turn to is unreliable or impractical because those who guide us underestimate chance and how results can be from the basis of random fluctuations (Raynor & Ahmed, 2013) So, which companies are worth studying? One of the most successful companies to use the flywheel concept is Amazon (Peppler, 2019) This success and growth is based on customer service experience and satisfaction in which attracts people back to the company causing them to spend and invest in the company.
