MAJOR INFORMATION SECURITY INCIDENT
With time, the security of information at individual, organizational, national and
international levels has depreciated to become very critical. Many issues have led to this
deterioration in security information but the highest contributor is cyber-crime. The committing
of these crimes has time and again put information in the hands of wrong people with malicious
intentions. The main perpetrators are hackers that specialize in computer technology but end up
using their gained knowledge for the wrong purposes due to various reasons such as the lack of
jobs to uptake them after they are through with their studies which leave them as idle minds that
eventually foster evil. The rate at which cyber-attacks occur has greatly increased and is
becoming detrimental as the wave takes to international levels where attacks have been launched
and spread through the world leaving behind a trail of devastation.
An attack on Saudi Arabia brought back the memories of the Shamoon wiper that
occurred in 2012 and was a cyber-attack that targeted the Saudi energy sector with companies
such as Saudi Aramco taking a big hit. The attack is remembered as the worst attack but the
previously experienced one was an improvement of the first which left the country devastated.
The attack back in 2012 wiped the data from over thirty thousand computers and replaced it with
a burning American flag. The attack was first detected by Kaspersky in their line of research.
