Florida National University CH 8 Purpose of Correlation and Regression HW
Objective: In this assignment, you will create, describe and analyze a correlation Analysis Method, this technique is use to quantify the association between two continuous variables; you will be able to choose any variable and compare them as the example proportionate it in your textbook. ASSIGNMENT GUIDELINES (10%): Students will judgmentally evaluate the readings from Chapter 8 and 9 on your textbook and from the article assigned for week 5. The Purpose of Correlation and regression analysis are related in the sense that both deal with relationships among variables. The correlation coefficient is a measure of linear association between two variables. Values of the correlation coefficient are always between -1 and +1. A correlation coefficient of +1 indicates that two variables are perfectly related in a positive linear sense, a correlation coefficient of -1 indicates that two variables are perfectly related in a negative linear sense, and a correlation coefficient of 0 indicates that there is no linear relationship between the two variables. For simple linear regression, the sample correlation coefficient is the square root of the coefficient of determination, with the sign of the correlation coefficient being the same as the sign of b1, the coefficient of x1 in the estimated regression equation. Neither regression nor correlation analyses can be interpreted as establishing cause-and-effect relationships. They can indicate only how or to what extent variables are associated with each other. The correlation coefficient measures only the degree of linear association between two variables. Any conclusions about a cause-and-effect relationship must be based on the judgment of the analyst. You need to develop a 3-4-page paper long including title page and references page reproducing your understanding and capability to relate the readings to Correlation Analysis. Each paper must be typewritten with 12-point font and double-spaced with standard margins. Follow APA Style 7th edition format when referring to the selected articles and include a reference page. EACH PAPER SHOULD INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING: 1. Introduction (25%) Provide a brief synopsis of the meaning (not a description) of each Chapter and articles you read, in your own words. 2. Your Strategies (50%) a. Briefly define and provide examples of dependent and independent variables. b. Discussion and explain the principle of statistical adjustment to lay audience. c. Analyze and define correlation analysis and regression. 3. Conclusion (15%) Briefly summarize your thoughts & conclusion to this assignment and your appraisal of the articles and Chapter you read. How did these articles and Chapters impact your thoughts about Multivariable Methods? How this Correlation Analysis help you in relation to Multivariable Methods. Evaluation will be based on how clearly you respond to the above, in particular: a) The clarity with which you present and analyzed the strategies; b) The depth, scope, and organization of your Correlation Analysis paper; and, c) Your conclusions, including a description of the impact of these articles and Chapters on any Healthcare Organization.

Program Student Learning Outcomes are broad statements that describe what students should know and be able to do upon completion of their degree. The signature assignment may be graded with an automated rubric that allows the University to collect data that can be aggregated across a location or college/school and used for program improvements. Purpose of Assignment The purpose of this assignment is for students to synthesize the concepts learned throughout the course, provide students an opportunity to build critical thinking skills, develop businesses and organizations, and solve problems that require data. Assignment Steps Case 1: Scenario: Cloud Data Services (CDS), headquartered in Memphis, provides information technology services, specifically application hosting services in the cloud for several clients in the southern United States. CDS hosts software applications on their network servers. While CDS has achieved great success and customers rate CDS's services highly, lately, some customers have been complaining about downtime on one of the primary network servers. The given dataset, found in the Signature Assignment Excel® Template, contains the downtime data for the month of November.Use the data analytics skills learned in Week 3 and analyze the downtime data.Make a short presentation to CDS's management including the following:1.Using used Microsoft® Excel® Pivot Tables, construct a frequency distribution showing the number of times during the month that the server was down for each downtime cause category.2.Develop a bar chart that displays the data from the frequency distribution in part 1.3.Develop a pie chart that breaks down the percentage of total downtime that is attributed to each downtime cause during the month.4.Evaluate the mean, median, standard deviation, and variance of the downtime minutes for the month of November.Case 2:Note: Although you will be studying the concept of CPI in more detail in your ECO/561 class; for the purpose of this case, you need to use the concepts of percentages, percentage increase/decrease, and creating and interpreting line charts to compute the inflation rate in the US economy and determine which time period experienced the highest inflation rate. Follow the steps below to complete this signature assignment: 1.Search for the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED).2.On the home page of the website, you will see a search box.3.Type in CPI- AUCSL in the search box and press the return key.4.The first result of the search will be "Consumer Price Index for All Urban Consumers: All Items." Click on this result link.5.Click on the Download link and download the data in Excel®.6.On the Excel® file, the second column gives you the CPI values for each period starting from 1947.7.Go to the last row and notice the last date and the CPI value. Go back 6 years from this last date. For example, if the last date is 2016-11-01, then the date 6 years ago would be 2010-11-01.8.Copy and paste this six years data into a separate Excel® tab.9.Using Excel®, calculate the percentage change in CPI from a year earlier for each observation, beginning with the observation one year later than the first observation. To make this calculation, click on the blank cell next to the observation corresponding to that date and then use Formula 1, located in the Signature Assignment Excel® Formulas document (note that in Excel®, the symbol for multiplication is *), where t-1 is the first observation and t is the observation one year later. For example, to find the percentage change in CPI from 2010-11-01 to 2010-10-01, refer to Formula 2 located in the Signature Assignment Excel® Formulas document. Convert this value to a percentage in Excel®. Repeat this process for the remaining observations (you can use the copy and paste functions to avoid having to retype the formula).10.This new column contains the national inflation rate.11.Create a line graph of the percentage changes (inflation rates) from a year earlier.12.Which period experienced the highest inflation rate? What was the inflation rate during that period?Format your assignment consistent with APA guidelines. Click the Assignment Files tab to submit your assignment.

Topic 3: Data Needs and Data Acquisition
DQ1 Review the "Big Data Ethics: 8 Key Facts To Ponder" Topic Material. Discuss specific ways that you can apply a Christian worldview when accessing, collecting, and analyzing data within a business setting. Include discussion of why awareness and understanding of ethical issues is an important part of being a data analytics professional. Support your ideas with relevant industry examples. Read "Big Data Ethics: 8 Key Facts to Ponder," by Morgan, from Information Week (2015). URL: https://www.informationweek.com/big-data/big-data-analytics/big-data-ethics-8-key-facts-to-ponder/d/d-id/1322143?image_number=3 DQ2 How did you determine the data timeframe to review? Why did you select the data that you used for your analytics project? Why did you exclude other data? What barriers can you come up against when trying to obtain data (i.e., confidential data, personal data, or personnel data)? Assignment Now that you have identified the business problem and translated it into an analytics problem, you can now identify the data needs and acquire the data. Provide a 500-1,000 word paper that, at a minimum, identifies the data needs in terms of the following: What is needed? Be specific for each variable (e.g., Monthly Sales last 12 months, Number of Monthly Customers last 12 months). How can the data be obtained? When can the data be obtained? For each data variable, identify the specific type: Are they measured data (continuous, e.g., how long does a customer stay in the retail store?) or counted data (discrete, e.g., how many customers came to the store from 1 p.m. to 2 p.m.?).Also, assess whether the available data can be used to address the specific analytics problem statement identified in the Topic 2 assignment. Provide the raw data that you will be using for subsequent assignments. Place the dataset into an Excel file. Ensure that column headers are provided that clearly identify the meaning of each data variable. As needed, provide the necessary information in the file so data values can be interpreted. If there are concerns about proprietary issues related to using company data, you can change your dataset accordingly. Prepare this assignment according to the guidelines found in the APA Style Guide, located in the Student Success Center. An abstract is not required. This assignment uses a rubric. Please review the rubric prior to beginning the assignment to become familiar with the expectations for successful completion.
