1.0 Abstract
The purpose of this report is to access the Environmental Impact of the Muscats
Expressway. It is a project to be carried in the capital of Oman that is expected to have
environmental consequences in the process of implementation. The positive impacts are to be of
benefit to the local community as well as the government and environment. The jobs creation,
economic growth, and industrial developments are some of the positive impacts expected from
the project. The locals will be employed in the working site to assist in the construction of the
highway. The improved income status of the people will see the living a more improved life and
change of economic situation of the society. Poor health conditions, increased level of crime and
other pollutions are the negative results expected from the project. Water pollution is anticipated
as a result of waste materials to be taken to the river for dumping. Air pollutions will be as a
result of fumes and chemical gases emanating from the project site. Serious mitigation factors
are to be set aside to deal with these negative challenges. Physical resources, biological resources
and general quality of life are all to be negatively affected by the activities of the project. It is
recommended that the government through the ministry of the environment must deal with these
expected outcomes, (G. 2004).

2.0 Introduction
Muscat expressway is a highway in the capital of Oman. It is the former Southern
Expressway, the major highway running parallel to the street of Sultan Qaboos and is regarded as
the relief road for the city residents. The 54km long road extends from Batinah Expressway that
borders the United Arab Emirates at that mat Malaha. The way was constructed to ease the
increased congestion in the capital of Muscat. It was the second corridor which provided access
to areas previously not accessible to promote economic growth in the city (Sultana, 2007). The
increased number of vehicle ownership for the last few decades led to traffic congestion that
necessitated another corridor in the city. Muscat Municipality took the initiative to select persons
who are to design and supervise the construction of another expressway. The Muscat
Expressway was to be 54km long and a project to be completed in ten nine years’ time. The
project is to be completed within the budget and must include all the agreed elements for it to
meet its objectives, (G. 2004). The project is to be cost-effective and have less environmental
impacts adhering to existing rules and regulations of the authorities. The life cycle related costs
are to be investigated and taken care of, and professional knowledge is to be invested in dealing
with the challenging conditions. The issues relating to maintenance costs and future expansion
need are to be met with a solution.
The construction demands are to be met by assembling a team of engineers and
technicians who were to be evaluated in different disciplines and experience. The selected team
was to work within construction specifications as given by city municipality, overcoming all
possible challenges. City municipality is to work with the engineers hand in hand to make sure

the laid down specifications are followed to the letter. The project is to use high-quality locally
available raw materials, and the regional best talents are to be employed to assist in the
construction. The country has no permanent rivers with some flowing for several hours before
drying. The state has a semi-arid climate with scorching summer with an average rainfall of less
than 100mm per year. Oman has an average of 1,200 species of African animals mainly found in
the mountains. Many of these species are arthropods, reptiles, insects and amphibians which
form the animal habitats in the country. The primary objective to be achieved by this
environmental study is to provide the relevant information to be conducted by the project
contractor. It was to be evaluated to see if the project is prone to produce the stated results.
According to (G. 2004), the review of natural factors in the region is to determine whether the
project conflicts with the environment scenario. The following are the areas likely to have a
potential impact on the proposed project:
• The movement of physical resources

The change of biological resources

The effect on the economic development

The consequences on the quality of life
To be factored in this report also is the primary environmental law in the country that

deals with pollution and other environmental hazards. It is called the Royal Decree or the law of
Oman which is in place to minimize the environmental harm. The project team composes of the
environmental experts who are involved in undertaking the preliminary Environmental Impact
Assessment from the government offices. The summary of EIA is to be presented to decision
makers for analysis, and they owe the project...

Tutor went the extra mile to help me with this essay. Citations were a bit shaky but I appreciated how well he handled APA styles and how ok he was to change them even though I didnt specify. Got a B+ which is believable and acceptable.
