Globalization has changed the way businesses operate in the world. Globalization has opened up
third world countries for manufacturing opportunities through outsourcing and clustering.
Globalization enables economic integration to take place. Integration implies fruits and vegetables
can be produced in Africa and consumed in Europe, while apparels made in China or Indonesia
can be consumed all over the world. The possibility of new players, low-cost producers, has taken
competition at a higher level. Organizations have been forced to embrace innovation, produce
better products or invest in skilled activities to gain competitive advantage. Global Value Chain
(GVC) is defined by Gereff (1995) as the international structure of production, trade, and
consumption of commodities that arise from a network of activities controlled by firms or
enterprises.
Generically Global value chain management can be seen in three dimensions namely; input-output
perspective, governance perspective and lastly, institutional perspective. First, the input-output
view is concerned with efficiency, productivity, geographical configurations that generate revenue
