Industrial revolution directly influenced the works of classical sociological theorists such
as Karl Max, Emile Durkheim, and Max Weber. These theories developed therein have
influenced today’s sociological theories mostly amongst contemporary sociologists. The
nineteenth century was marked by social chaos from political revolutions brought about by the
French revolution of 1789. The French revolution was initially intended for the maintenance of
order in society after the chaos that had reigned from political changes. A lot of changes arose
due to industrial and agricultural revolution such as general population issues which influenced
the expansion of cities and over population which thereby contributed to theories by the classical
sociologists (Ritzer, 1996).
Emile Durkheim (1858-1917) made sociology legitimate in France and ensured that it
had attained dominance in enforcing force of discipline worldwide. However, Emile Durkheim
was liberated in political sense, his thoughts and statements portray a conservative albeit
