DOMESTIC AND INTERNATIONAL BUSINESS

Introduction
Domestic business simply refers to the commercial activities which are conducted within
the borders of the home country such that the business deals with the local currency, culture,
legal factors and customs among others. When it comes to the international business, an
organization has to go beyond its home country borders such that the business is carried out at
the global level. Kuzemko, Keating and Goldthau (2015) point out that property rights and
intellectual property rights have an impact on both the domestic and international business. Any
organization that has an idea to expand its operations both domestically and internationally must
seek first to identify the risk associated with intellectual property rights and the tangible property
rights. Besides the identifications of the potential risks, the business must also put in place
mitigation measures. A clear understanding of the close relationship between the intellectual
property rights and the tangible property rights is vital for the business to be able to operate
within the law (Bradner & Contreras, 2017). Good knowledge, evaluation and the management
of the legal risk associated with such property rights lessen the possibility of liability for
infringement of the same. For instance, there are several significant factors that are causing
Devon Energy organization which deals with oil and gas to rethink more about its expansion and
operations fundamentally. These factors include the expansion in the world of resource
abundance, the profound technological advances which disrupt the old ways of operation and the
demographic shift which causes the employees to demand changes in the working environment
(Handscomb, 2016). This makes the central thesis of the essay to explore the business expansion
of the Devon Energy organization with a special focus on the analysis of the property rights,
risks, and benefits in both the domestic and international expansion.

Devon Energy organization is located in the United States. The corporation deals with oil
and gas, and it is seeking to increase its oil wells and gas wells both domestically and
internationally. In this case, the company is seeking to expand its business to areas/countries
where the land is rich in minerals such that the company can increase its raw materials.
Therefore, the company has identified a potential land within its home country (USA) and across
the border in a country known as Libya. This means that the company must take the appropriate
procedure when expanding its business activities in the identified places.

Tangible Property Rights
Property rights refer to the theoretical and legal entitlement to a certain property by
individuals or entities and the ability to determine how such property is to be used (The
University of Phoenix. (2017). In the case of the Devon Energy organization, the tangible
property rights refer to the rights over land which is the most important thing that company needs
to exploit oil and gas. Therefore, expanding the business domestically, the first action which the
manager of Devon Company should take is to come up with a plan for drilling, completing sand
reclaiming new natural gas wells. The manager should also come up with the plan for the
construction, the operation of the ancillary facilities which are necessary to support the new
wells. These include proper road network and the pipeline for transporting oil and gas. This
proposed expansion will be carried out on the land, and it is likely to touch on acres which are
either privately or publicly owned (US Bureau of Land Management, 2003). The manager needs
to get information on the jurisdiction and ownersh...
