Childhood Maltreatment and Perceived Stress in Young Adults.
Hong et al. (2018) conducted a study exploring childhood maltreatment's long-term effects
on young adults' psychological well-being. The study included 814 participants between 18 and
25 from a university in the Midwest United States. The sample was 53% female and 85%
Caucasian. All participants completed an online survey that included questions about childhood
maltreatment and various psychological measures. The results showed that those who experienced
childhood maltreatment had higher perceived stress, lower self-efficacy, and lower resilience than
those who had not encountered such abuse. Furthermore, emotion regulation strategies, selfefficacy, and stability were found to be protective against the adverse effects of childhood
maltreatment on perceived stress.
