Introduction
Scholarly sources, always referred to as the academic article or research, are materials
that give the findings of a research, study or an experiment. The article is usually written by an
expert or a group of expert in a particular field, to be reviewed by other experts who might need
the information. They can be in print form or internet sources. According to CIRT, these
materials are always considered more reliable as compared to the other sources as they give
results that are based on research, and not just opinion or conjecture.
Some of the main characteristics of scholarly sources include;

These materials always have a formal appearance, which might contain diagrams, tables,
and graphs to illustrate the finding of the research. This gives a summarized explanation
of the results as explained by Kan.

The materials also have a summary paragraph, also called the abstract. This section is
usually found in the text, to explain the intent of the article.

Depending on the field written about, an expert usually writes the article. Kan continues
to explain that no one can come up to give his/her opinion about the topic if they don’t
have necessary skill in that field.

The language of the text is specialized terms relating to that particular field. For example,
if it is nursing, words related to nursing are used and not history.
