MY LEVEL OF PSYCAP SELF-ASSESSMENT
Introduction
The psychological capital (PsyCap) concept refers to an individual’s positive
psychological state of development (Luthans, Youssef-Morgan, Avolio, 2015). The four
elements of the concept are Hope, Efficacy, Resiliency, and Optimism. The elements are
abbreviated as HERO (Luthans et al., 2015). PsyCap has been found to correlate with preferable
employees’ behaviors, attitudes, and performance (Luthans et al., 2015). I scored 18 points on
hope. This is the highest that one can score on this element. My score on efficacy was 15 points
where the highest is also 18 points. I scored 16 points on resiliency out of 18 points. On the final
element, optimism, I scored 11 points out of 14 points. I scored a high level of PsyCap on hope,
efficacy, and resiliency, and moderate level of optimism. This paper discusses the results of my
assessment and how different motivational theories can aid in improving job performance.
Why I agree with the Results
The reason why I agree with the results of the assessment is that they are in agreement
with the way I perceive myself on the four elements and the way I practically live my life. I am
a very hopeful person and hence the score of 18 points on the element. I always believe that there
is better to come if one works hard. I believe that I have the capability to deliver desired results
in a task and hence a score of 15 on efficacy. My ability to withstand and recover from
difficulties in life explains my high score on resiliency. Finally, I am optimistic about life and the
future but I also try to be realistic in my optimism. This explains the moderate score in the
optimism element.
