So as more people move in, their inelastic demand for housing causes the price of housing to go up. The problem is especially acute in Austin, where many white-collar professionals like teachers can no longer afford to live there. We see something similar here; except the problem is that we have a lot of service industry jobs, and wages are too low to afford housing here. For this paper, find 3 recent (sometime in 2017) newspaper or magazine articles (I would recommend starting with Texas Monthly and Texas Tribune) that discuss this issue and write up a summary of the major issues that are causing what we currently see with housing prices.
