After China, the United States is the world’s second largest emitter of greenhouse gases,
taking a lead to contribute to climate change but doing nothing, based on the decision to
withdraw from the Paris Climate Change Agreement, to fix the problem. The decision by Donald
Trump to withdraw from the Paris Agreement implies the United States lack of commitment to
climate change control. The Paris Climate Agreement was a determination by over 190 countries
to cut greenhouse gas emissions and maintain climate warming at below 2 degrees C. The
agreement was ratified by over 55 nations that account for over half of the global emission. The
Trump administration should have stayed in the Paris agreement considering the mounting
evidence that supports human-caused climate change. The decision by Trump to withdraw from
the accord is to reassert the sovereignty of America, however, the accord does not impose
sanctions on countries for failing to meet individual targets. The decision to stay will ensure that
the use enjoys the benefits of transformative change and innovations in various systems like
energy and transportation. President Trump should have stayed in the Paris Climate Change
Agreement to address the pledges of the accord, minimize global warming, and avert a
diplomatic crisis.
One of the broadest scientific agreements is that human-based emissions in form of
greenhouse gases from combustion of fossil fuels and carbon dioxide have the capacity to change
the climate of the earth and be accompanied by repercussions in form environmental, social, and
economic. The efforts to reduce emissions are marred by political obstacles but the 2015 Paris
