The equation x^2 + 4y^2 = 36 represents which conic section?

This is an ellipse. If you divide the 36 from both sides you get (x^2)/36 + (y^2)/9 = 1 and its a little easier to see why that is. It would have 2 radii of 6 along the x axis and 3 along the y axis. Here's a link to the graph.
