Sir Robert Peel gave important policies and assured the public of the good intentions of police forces. Many of the policing that Peel envisioned and created are still sustained today, although with minor changes. Peel's principlesare simplified versions of what law enforcementimplementstoday. Peel's first principle states, "The basic mission for which the police exist is to prevent crime and disorder." (Nazemi, n.d.) This mission is still the primary stepping stool for all law enforcement today. While the process to prevent crime now is much more complex than Peel's, the basis for policing was demonstrated the same, all departments want to lower crime rates and prevent further havoc. These polices were put into place to try to prevent chaos from spreading and they created a general perspective for modern policing.Peel'sfifth principle is another that is incredibly close to law enforcement's today, "police seek and preserve public favour not by catering to the public opinion but by constantly demonstrating absolute impartial service to the law.” (Nazemi, n.d.) Laws were created to be followed and respected; Peel explains it perfectly, not all laws are in favor of public opinion and it is not up to law enforcement to cater to anyone's specific judgments. Laws are implemented to protect the citizens of the country and while some are unpopular, it is up to Congress to decide whether or not that law is fair...
