Human Rights
Human rights are the basic principles that guide societies founded on democracy and the
rule of law. Human rights describe human behavior and interaction at both domestic and
international levels, inherent in every person by the fact they are human. As a concept, human
rights importance and advocacy can be traced to the end of World War II. Human rights are
practiced not in a vacuum but rather within the society thus, becoming a sociological fact.
According to Clément (2011), the practice of human rights happens within the society and
therefore creates social problems in different perspectives. Since there exists the society’s own
culture that has been socially constructed, the idea of human rights often conflicts with the ideas
of some members of the society.
Human rights have primarily been promoted by private citizens and nongovernmental
organizations or groups who often face challenges in the course of their work. The actions of
governments are monitored by human rights groups to ensure adherence to human rights as
