Argument for Haslett Position on Inheritance
Over the past decades, in the United States, many individuals have supported inheritance
based on the belief that it remains essential in capitalism. Haslett argues that it remains
incompatible with the values of capitalist and ought to get abolished. In this paper, I argue for
Haslet’s position on the justification of inheritance.
In his article, Haslett contends that inheritance is not justified. He notes that there exists a
vast inequality in wealth distribution than the distribution of income. He claims that inheritance
prolongs the level of disparity in the distribution of wealth. Capitalism gets defined as an
economic system in which a country’s trade remains controlled by the private sector for profit
gain, rather than by the government. The proposed ideals of capitalism that gets violated by
inheritance include distribution according to productivity, equal opportunities, and freedom.
First, inheritance contravenes the exertions of capitalism that entice individuals to remain
productive and allows them to benefit from their efforts. The society cannot compel any
