This project is designed to keep us all informed and up-to-date with current issues, ideas, and incidents affecting women today. Students will be required to keep up with current news of particular interest or concern for women, or that focuses on issues of gender. Each student will have the opportunity to research and locate TWO news stories throughout the session.

The second submission is an attachment or active link for the story will be submitted, in the appropriate assignment box, with a brief summary (1-2 paragraphs; titled "Summary") and a thoughtful review response (ONE FULL PAGE in length, not including summary paragraphs; titled "Review") prepared by the student. In addition, students will post a condensed summary and review in Discussions for other students to read and respond to. Since there will be two opportunities to complete this assignment, I will keep the highest grade and drop the other one.

SOME MAJOR ISSUE AREAS OF CONCERN AND INTEREST FOR WOMEN (OR PERTAINING TO GENDER): Research on Women or Gender Achievements by Women Women (or Men) Breaking Gender Barriers Currents Events that Focus on a Woman or Group of Women Family Issues Gender Issues Issues Surrounding Girls and Girlhood Books, Films, Television, Art by and about Women – Reviews or Commentaries Famous Women Special Areas of Concern for Women Focused Issues that Affect Women’s Lives/ Lifestyles NOTE: SEPERATE DIRECTIONS FOR WRITTEN REPORTS: For each news story, students should: Research and locate an original article, report, review, or editorial Write a brief (2—3 typed paragraphs) summary of the major points of information or ideas discussed in the story. Include a heading above this section, titled “SUMMARY.” Write a thoughtful response to the story. It should be at least ONE FULL PAGE in length and should come after the title “REVIEW.” The response should show that the student has considered the impact, meaning, or possible reasons for or effects of one or more major aspects of the topic discussed in the story. The student should also provide some personal reactions in the response; these could be fully discussed throughout the response or provided in the conclusion as means of summing up. Of course, in the personal responses, students should delve into the reasons for their reactions. Be sure to include a Works Cited or Bibliography citation for the source (the article).
