Overview of network design
This chapter deals and concentrates on the design and implementation of new
network infrastructure. The study case in this project is NOOR ALAMAL Company.
The plan for this case is the Cisco hierarchical model. Also, the IP address used is the
schema for the entire network. On the other hand, logical and physical designs are
employees in drawing of the plan. NOOR ALAMAL Company widely uses the
crumple center system in its outline. This method is mostly used when dealing with
medium and small organizations. A limitation with this kind of configuration of the
system is that it does not fulfill the organization need at times. The structure can
counter these shortcomings by undertaking a complete, accessible and adaptable in
the arrangement of the system. This way the weaknesses are countered with as they
occur. The challenges are thus continually eliminated.
Logical Design
There is need to use the new framework called Microsoft Visio 2010 NOOR
ALAMAL Company in a way that it will outline a coherent plan. In implementing the
structure, various gadgets are to be used ranging from IP camera, IP Telephony, NVR,
Wireless controllers, and SharePoint. In such a case there is a need for the
organization to revamp its security since the additional accessible gadgets make it
vulnerable to insecurity issues that may end up destroying such a structure. Use of
such devices makes the organization versatile as it is in a position to utilize a
progressive system. More so, all PCs are connected by the switches in the offices,
causing disappointments as it dismisses the hub. To counter this kind of frustration the
frameworks should be made in such a way that they are fast and dependable. Also,

utilizing the structures make maintenance much more comfortable, easy checking and
adhering to all the organization's needs.

Three Layer Hierarchal Design Model of Cisco
There three layers in the hierarchical internetworking mode associated to
Cisco. The three layers occur separately, and they include the core layer, the
distribution layer, and access layer. To begin with, is the core layer? This segment is
tasked with moving of information that has fast exchanging spine. The layer has a
rapid spine from the internetwork which enables it to join sections of dispersion
switches level of the organization. The core layer can be described as a vital part of
the system, and it is involved in the progression and managing sensitive information.
Lastly, the core layer is depended on when it comes to switching all intents and
controlling movement of information.

Consequently, there is a collapsed layer. This layer combines two layers, i.e.,
distributed and the core layer. This feature enables the coating to network in both

large and small organizations. In the case of NOOR, ALAMAL Company has a
collapsed layer which has two layers and three switches. The switches include the
WS-C 3560-24TS-E Cisco 3560 Switch. The coating is also directly connected to the
two switches (Cisco catalyst 2960 S-24TS) from the access layer. This makes the
device to be in a position to access the internet over the network. The switches are
positioned and placed in a way to enable load balancing and failover redundancy. The
collapsed switch is tasked with ensuring that the device takes the best route to access
the user. The Hot Standby Router Protocol (HSRP) is tasked with ensuring that there
is proper load balancing. Load balancing entails providing IP devices a way to
communicate by default gateway. This is enabled since there is an active and a
standby router over the network. The layer also has a feature where there is a loop
between the switches allowing some interfaces to be on standby ports and some active
(Lammle, pg. 132, 2012).
Furthermore, there is the distribution layer that. This segment is tasked with
routing policies and the right connectivity. Routing occurs together with the
connectivity needed to provide the plan. This layer is used as a connection point for
the two layers and the core layer. The features of the distribution layer enable it to
provide routing, use WAN to regulate access of data to the core layer over the
network service needs on the fast way. Also, the distribution layer chooses a right
path and place for the network to implement policies as forwarded the file to the
server.
Lastly, there is the access layer or the desktop layer. This layer enables a
connection with the client. The coating helps in controlling the user in accessing the
network. More so, the users are also allowed to provide the local workgroup access to
internetwork resources. The access layer can go on using the functions and access
control and policies from the distribution layer. The coat is also tasked segmentation
of collision domains whereby the VLAN in the coating enhances the management of
the network, improve the performances by decreasing the number of collision domain
and finally there is improved flexibility. The VLAN is located in different
departments to enable separation of the VLAN.

End User Devices

The access layer provides a direct connection to the end users via their
devices. The end users devices include the PC, the printers and access point which are
connected by use of UTP CAT6 cables which provide a link. The layer further uses
the access link that connects the seven switches and the two layers enabling
communication that use all services in the collapsed layer.

Access point 108g 2100 AP
Access point 108g 2100 AP is a wireless access point that enables wireless
devices such as laptops, PC and printers to have access to the local area network. This
connection is made possible since the wireless access point's act as switches that
spread wireless connections.
Layer 2 switches (Cisco Catalyst 2960 S-24TS)
The second layer has two links that connect one connection to the core switch
and the second link to the core switch provides redundancy. The switch in this layer
enables expanding and scaling of the device. Moreover, the switches ensure there are
other access functions such as MAC address layer that filters good for security level
and high bandwidth to transfer data over the network. It is also important to note that
the access layer has 24 ports for scalability and increasing the numbers of users.
De-Militarized Zone DMZ
DMZ is tasked with the provision of extranet services to Noor Alamal
Company. DMN is crucial as it is the source of a physical and logical subnetwork that
safeguards the users from accessing internal information of the organization. Thus
DMN gives security to the data by creating a perimeter network. In such a case the
administrator is the only one who can enable external users to access the servers by
authorization. DMZ is required where the administrator wants to increase the access
to the internet using an exchange server, email servers, and web servers. In layer two
DMZ network is usually connected to ASA firewall by use of a switch layer 2 using a
cable (UTP Cat 6).The company employs the mail server to enable communication by
use of emails. Moreover, the company uses Web s...
