The width of a rectangle is 2 cm less than its length. The perimeter is 52 cm. What is the length ?

May 17th, 2015

Let its length be x cm.

It is width will be (x-2) cm since it is 2 cm less than the length

Perimeter of a rectangle is given by the formula 2(L+W).

So 2(x + (x-2)) = 52

2(2x -2) = 52

4x- 4 = 52

4x = 52 + 4

4x = 56

x = 56/4 = 14 cm

So its length is 14 cm and its width is (14-2) cm, which is 12 cm.

Hope this helps. You can ask any question if you are not comfortable.
