If a theater charges 6.00 for popcorn and 3.50 for a drink and filled 32 orders and colleted 149.50 how many popcorn and drinks did they sell?

Let the total number for popcorn be x and for a drink be y.

so

x + y = 32

6x + 3.5y = 149.5

Now lets solve the above simultaneous equation by substitution.

x + y = 32

x = 32-y

6x + 3.5y =149.5

6(32-y) + 3.5y = 149.5

192-6y + 3.5y = 149.5

192 - 2.5y = 149.5

-2.5y = - 42.5

y = 17

so x = 32-17

x = 15

Hence, popcorn = 15 while drinks = 17.

Hope this helps! If you are not comfortable you can ask any question.
